Brisbane, AU – 19/02/2026 As bandwidth specifications increase for USB, HDMI and DisplayPort, the maximum supported cable length for traditional copper construction shrinks. That’s where Active Optical technology cones to the rescue, offering comparable feature sets over much longer distances by sending the bulk data over fibre optic lines.
That’s how Avencore’s Carbon Series Active Optical USB Type-C cable can offer 40Gbps bandwidth and 60W power delivery on top of two broad data specifications that allow for maximum versatility in a single product.
Designed foremost as a video link cable, Mode 1 spec provides a 4-Lane 40Gbps DisplayPort 2.1 superhighway for video modes up to 8K @ 60Hz with HDR via DSC, with a little bit of USB data to spare for peripherals like a keyboard and mouse dongle attached to the display.
Mode 2 spec is a 2-Lane 16.2Gbps DisplayPort 1.4 channel catering to lower video modes like 4K @ 60Hz, plus 10Gbps of read and 10Gbps of write speeds for USB data transfer or other peripherals. DSC is still available in Mode 2, so you can still exceed 4K60 on some hardware and enjoy fast USB data as well
Both modes offer 60W power delivery from suitable sources, and the cable can also be used as a dedicated bi-directional USB data cable if you don’t need video support.
Mode selection and feature support is completely automatic based on the video mode you’re targeting. Fully compatible with DisplayPort Alt-Mode, the Carbon Series Active Optical USB Type-C cable works with smart-phones, laptops and desktops.
